Facing south-east at an altitude of 450 metres, the plot is formed partly of marly soil, and partly of calcareous clay.

Ensconced here are only old vines of Nebbiolo, and the best grapes are selected to produce Barolo DOCG Riserva “Sottocastello di Novello”.
The decision to use this vineyard to make the Reserve Barolo was taken on account of its capacity to produce a powerful, austere wine that needs lengthy ageing to release all its potential, but is capable of treating those patient enough to wait to a rich, varied bouquet that combines more ethereal overtones with fresher, fruitier notes.
