Barbaresco DOCG Rizzi Vigna Fratin

This Barbaresco is history: the history of our family, interwoven with that of Piedmontese winegrowing.

The Fratin vineyard was planted in the early decades of the 19th century and was the first to be purchased by the Piazzos in the 1970s, to be produced as a single-vineyard wine a decade later. Its imposing wall of sun-kissed vines directly faces our winery. Rizzi Vigna Fratin offers an essential and contemporary expression of austerity: structure and balance come together in a wine that is full-bodied, immediate and constantly evolves on the palate.

Vinification and ageing

crushing of the grapes and separation from the stems.
Fermentation and maceration take place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. At least nine months are spent ageing in large oak barrels, followed by several months in the bottle.

intense and complex, with fruity notes of jam and prunes, floral hints of violet, and vinous and spicy notes that become more ethereal with age

Rizzi-Fratín

Rizzi-Fratín is the estate’s most extensive vineyard, and it is located right opposite the winery itself, below the road leading from Alba to Treiso. It is part of the “Rizzi” cru, but its history is linked to a nearby farm once owned by a brotherhood of friars (hence its name meaning ‘little brother’) which is understood to have been a Napoleonic property. The entire vineyard is given over to the growing of Nebbiolo, with the selection of its grapes producing Barbaresco DOCG “Fratín” each year. It faces due south at an altitude of 200 metres on marly soil of medium consistency, making it ideal for the production of a rich, elegant, well-structured wine.
